Insurance
Insurance is a 37mm coin in a pegged bezel attached to a 21” chain. Gold coins come on iridescent glass and gold oval chain and black coins on glass pearl and black oval chain. Four color combinations are available and more history on the medal is below.
This insurance medal shows a shield surrounded by sitting angels that represent savings and welfare. Above the angels is a column supporting a globe, that says “the world” topped by a star. On the back the words translate to: anonymous company of insurance on human life.
History: Prior to the 18th century insurance is primarily maritime and was in the hands of a few major shipowners. It is a contract for an individual to repair losses related to a shipwreck during trade routes.
Non-maritime insurance is imposed by Louis XV in 1753 mostly offered as a fire guarantee with a general insurance company. This medal was created in 1875 and signed by the medalist Joseph Dantzell (1805–1877) who worked for the Paris mint.
