Three Graces
Three Graces
Another medal I love, Three Graces. Mostly I use real pearls, but had to have these gorgeous, high luster, 10mm capped glass spheres! Combined with oval link chain, they make an amazing statement piece with this very large (35mm) medal which comes in antique bronze with rose pearls or antique silver with white pearls. This chain is 16.5” long and the medal an additional 2.25” long and the history on this medal is explained below.
History: This is a replica of a Medal of Honor from the Institute de France where there are five academies to study from, one of which is is Fine Arts. Based on the instruments on the front it must be for music and was awarded in 1890 which you can make out on the reverse side of the medal.
Three Graces: In ancient Greek literature, The Three Graces are the three daughters of Zeus, each of whom is described as being able to bestow a particular gift on humanity: (from left to right) Euphrosyne (mirth), Aglaia (elegance) and Thalia (youth and beauty).
