The Lord's Prayer was first said by Jesus in Matthew chapter 6 of the Bible. It was given as an example of how to pray to God. What makes the prayer so beautiful is that each sentence in the prayer is representative of how we are to approach God with prayer. Here is how it works:
First, we come to God with praise. (Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.)
Then we ask and acknowledge that His heavenly plans will prevail in our lives. (Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.)
After that, we ask that our needs be met. (Give us this day our daily bread.)
Then we ask for God to forgive us, and we forgive those around us. (And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.)
Following that, we ask the Lord to keep us spiritually strong. (And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:)
And last, we thank and praise the Lord again. (For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.)
